In September 2015, Princeton in Africa launched the PiAf Alumni Network, a new alumni engagement strategy dedicated to strengthening the PiAf alumni community. The PiAf Alumni Network was conceived as PiAf marked 16 years since sending a summer class of two Fellows to Rwanda to work with the International Rescue Committee. Since that time, the program has expanded in size and scope, today offering 51 fellowships with 31 organizations in 15 countries. As the program has grown, so too has its alumni community, which is now comprised of nearly 400 (and counting!) passionate and adventurous alumni from 77 colleges and universities who live across the world.
In recognition of the potential role the alumni community can play in strengthening and supporting the organization’s mission, while also actively contributing to the experience of future Fellows, Princeton in Africa has set out to build a world-class alumni network. The goal of this network is to foster a more purposeful and approachable PiAf alumni community by developing more accessible, focused, and innovative initiatives to foster personal leadership, community engagement, and longstanding commitment to Africa.
The network build is occurring in three phases. In phase I, PiAf created a new alumni website and conducted an alumni survey. The alumni website is the anchor around which PiAf will build phase II: specific and sustained engagement opportunities for alumni. Phase III will plan ways to offer more touchpoints for current Fellows and alumni to interact directly. Read here for more details about the important new alumni initiatives underway.
The PiAf alumni website is now live – visit piafalumni.org (but please note that it’s a password-protected website for Princeton in Africa alumni only). The alumni website is an online community where alumni can connect with each other, plan events, share resources, and otherwise engage with the PiAf alumni network. It includes a password-protected, searchable alumni directory, an alumni map, archived job postings, PiAf events, message boards, and more. All PiAf alumni already have a profile on the website that they can update. If you are a PiAf alum(na), please read this one-pager for instructions on how to access the website and update your profile.
